J-1 Change of Major or Degree

This process is usually initiated by the student. Once the request has been processed by the appropriate school (i.e. School of Engineering or CLAS) or department and recorded in Enroll & Pay, ISS will automatically create a new DS-2019. Student will receive an email when the new DS-2019 is ready to be picked up in ISS office, Room 2 Strong Hall. If a new DS-2019 is not received within 2 weeks of initiating the change of major, please contact ISS.

Change of Degree Level

Student must gain admission into the new academic program. Note: J-1's can only progress to a higher degree (PhD to Masters is not possible). Appropriate proof of finances for the entire program must also be submitted along with the application for the new degree before a new DS-2019 for change in education level is issued. ISS strongly recommends that this process be completed early so a new DS-2019 can be issued prior to the beginning of the appropriate semester.
